Cookies and storage
This page lists what BookmarkFiles keeps in your browser, why, and how to remove it.
Cookies
BookmarkFiles does not set any cookies. If advertising is displayed on the site, third-party ad services may set cookies of their own. They are described in the Privacy Policy, and you will be offered a consent choice where the law requires it.
Browser storage used by the app
The app saves data on your device using your browser's storage so that your list is still there next time. It is not sent to our servers. This storage is used only to provide the features you asked for, such as showing your list again after a restart.
| Where | Name | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| IndexedDB | bookmarkfiles | Your list: references to the files you chose, names, descriptions, path notes, folders, order, and the last selected file. It also keeps a record of files the app has opened so that a saved layout can reconnect to them by name. |
| Local storage | bf-theme | Light or dark theme |
| Local storage | bf-fs, bf-wrap | Editor text size and word-wrap setting |
| Local storage | bf-rootopen | Whether the Unfiled section is expanded |
| Local storage | bf-lastdir | The last path note you typed, suggested next time |
None of these entries contains the text of your files.
How to remove it
- Remove files and folders from the list inside the app, or press Close All.
- Clear this site's data in your browser's settings. In Chrome and Edge, open the site information icon in the address bar and choose the option to reset or clear site data. This forgets your list, folders, saved file references and preferences.
- Remove file access permissions from the same site settings panel.
After clearing, the app starts empty. Your actual files on disk are not affected.
