Privacy Policy
BookmarkFiles is built so that your files never leave your computer. This policy explains, in plain language, what information is and is not collected when you use bookmarkfiles.com.
1. Summary
- We do not upload, receive or store the contents of your files.
- We do not ask you to create an account.
- The list of files, folders and descriptions you create is stored in your own browser, not on our servers.
- Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs.
- If you email us, we receive the information in your email.
- We may show ads served by Google AdSense in the future. This section is explained below.
2. Your files
When you add a file, your browser gives this page access to that specific file. The page reads and writes the file locally in your browser. File contents, file names and file locations are not sent to us or to any third party by this site.
3. Information stored on your device
To remember your list between visits, BookmarkFiles stores data in your browser's storage on your own computer: references to the files you chose, their names, your descriptions, folders, path notes, the order of the list, and preferences such as light or dark theme, text size and word wrap. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings, or by removing files and folders from the list. See Cookies and storage for the full list.
4. Layout files you save
If you use Save Layout, a small file containing folder names, file names, descriptions and path notes is saved to a location you choose on your computer. We do not receive it. You decide where it is kept and who can access it.
5. Hosting and server logs
This website is hosted on Cloudflare. When you load a page, Cloudflare processes your request and, like most hosting providers, may record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. Cloudflare's own privacy policy describes how it handles this data. We do not use this information to identify individual visitors.
6. Analytics
We do not currently use analytics tools that set cookies or track you across sites. If that changes, we will update this policy before the change takes effect.
7. Email
If you write to [email protected], the message is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to a private mailbox that we use to answer you. We use the information you send only to respond to you and to improve the site. We keep support emails for as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period after, then delete them.
8. Advertising
We may display advertising on this site, including ads served by Google AdSense. At the time of this policy's effective date, no ads are displayed inside the application. When ads are displayed, the following applies.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this site or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
- You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we will ask for your consent through a consent message before personalized ads or non-essential cookies are used.
We do not give advertisers access to your files or to the list you keep in BookmarkFiles.
9. Cookies
BookmarkFiles itself does not set cookies. Third-party advertising services may set cookies when ads are displayed. See Cookies and storage.
10. Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information, such as the right to access, correct or delete it, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not collect your files and do not keep an account for you, the only personal information we are likely to hold is what you send us by email. To exercise a right, or to ask a question, write to [email protected]. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. California residents may have additional rights under California law, and we do not sell personal information.
12. International transfers
Cloudflare operates a global network, so requests to this site may be processed in countries other than your own.
13. Security
The site is delivered over HTTPS. Because your files are processed in your own browser, their protection depends mostly on the security of your computer and your own backup habits.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above shows when it last changed. Significant changes will be shown on this page.
